A single row cylindrical roller bearing has an outer ring, and its inner ring and a group of conical rollers are enclosed by a basket-shaped cage to form an inner ring assembly. The outer ring can be separated from the inner ring assembly. According to the ISO dimensions standard for cylindrical roller bearings, any standard type of cylindrical roller bearing's outer ring or inner ring assembly should be able to achieve international interchangeability with the same type of outer ring or inner ring assembly. That is, for the same type of outer ring, except for the external dimensions and tolerances which must comply with ISO492 (GB307) regulations, the cone angle and the diameter of the component cone of the inner ring assembly must also comply with the interchangeability regulations.
Usually, the cone angle of the outer ring raceway of a single row cylindrical roller bearing is between 10° and 19°, and it can withstand the combined action of axial load and radial load. The larger the cone angle, the greater the ability to withstand axial load. Bearings with a large cone angle, the suffix B is added, the cone angle is between 25° and 29°, and they can withstand larger axial loads. In addition, single row cylindrical roller bearings can adjust the clearance during installation.
The outer ring (or inner ring) of a double row cylindrical roller bearing is a single unit. The two inner rings (or outer rings) have similar small end faces, and there is a spacer ring in the middle. The clearance is adjusted by the thickness of the spacer ring, and the preload of the double row cylindrical roller bearing can also be adjusted by the thickness of the spacer ring.
For four-row cylindrical roller bearings, the performance of this type of bearing is basically the same as that of double-row cylindrical roller bearings, but it can withstand larger radial loads and has a slightly lower limit rotational speed. It is mainly used in heavy machinery.
