The moving parts of machines can be classified as rolling parts, linear motion parts, or combinations of both. With the development of rolling bearings approximately 110 years ago, rolling contact became the standard method for achieving rolling motion. This led to a great technological revolution. Rolling contact not only saves kinetic energy but also keeps frictional resistance at the lowest level, thereby significantly improving the performance of machinery. However, although similar development achievements in the field of linear motion might be ten times more valuable, the technology for achieving linear motion through rolling contact can be considered to be relatively late.
